Epoxy Flooring FAQ Legacy Floor Coating
Epoxy Flooring FAQ Legacy Floor Coating Arizona
What is the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic coatings?
Epoxy creates the strongest bond to concrete and serves as an excellent base coat and moisture barrier. Polyaspartic is highly UV stable, making it ideal for topcoats that hold color and gloss in Arizona sun. Most of our systems use both products together for maximum performance.
How long does a floor coating project take?
Most projects take between 3 and 5 days, depending on the condition of the concrete, weather, and the system selected.
Can you install coatings year-round in Arizona?
Yes. We install coatings year-round, but we always monitor weather, slab temperature, and moisture conditions to make sure the products cure properly.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. We provide onsite consultations so we can inspect the concrete, test moisture levels, and recommend the right system for your space.
Do you grind the concrete before coating?
Yes. We diamond-grind the concrete to create the proper surface profile for strong adhesion and long-term performance.
Do you repair cracks and divots?
Yes. We repair cracks, chips, and divots as part of our preparation process. However, with clear or solid-color coatings, some repaired areas or surface variations may still remain slightly visible.
Do you level uneven floors?
We repair minor imperfections, but we do not provide major floor leveling or structural concrete correction. If a slab needs significant leveling, we recommend having that addressed before coating installation.
Why is prep work so important?
Surface preparation is one of the most important parts of a successful coating system. Proper grinding, cleaning, moisture testing, and repairs help ensure the coating bonds correctly and lasts.
Why do moisture levels matter before coating concrete?
Concrete is porous and can hold moisture below the surface. If the wrong system is applied over a slab with too much moisture, it can lead to coating failure over time.
Do you test every floor for moisture?
Yes. We test the concrete before installation so we can choose the right primer and moisture barrier for the slab.
What moisture barrier options do you offer?
Our systems typically include epoxy primers rated around 8 to 10 pounds of moisture resistance, and for higher-moisture slabs we offer VB-25 systems that can withstand up to 25 pounds of moisture vapor pressure.
Why not just use polyaspartic by itself?
Polyaspartic is extremely UV stable, but by itself it is not the best moisture-blocking product. That’s why we typically prime with epoxy first, then build the system with polyaspartic layers where they perform best.
How soon can I walk on my garage floor after installation?
Light foot traffic is typically allowed after 24 hours.
How soon can I drive on the floor?
Vehicle traffic and heavy use should wait at least 48 hours after installation unless otherwise directed.
How long does full cure take?
Full cure generally takes 7 days.
Do you warranty hot tire pickup?
Yes, provided the coating has been given the recommended time before heavy use. If vehicle traffic is put on the floor too early, resulting damage is not covered.
Can patios be coated in Arizona’s extreme weather?
Yes, but outdoor coatings require more planning than indoor floors. We account for UV rays, moisture, hydrostatic pressure, weather exposure, traction needs, and surrounding irrigation.
Why are patios more challenging than garages?
Patios are exposed to sunlight, rain, sprinklers, landscaping moisture, pets, and larger temperature swings. Those conditions require the right combination of moisture protection and UV stability.
How many coats go into a patio system?
Most patio systems involve 3 to 4 coats and usually take 3 to 5 days depending on conditions and the system selected.
Will patio coatings fade in the sun?
Our patio systems are built with UV-stable polyaspartic layers specifically to resist fading and yellowing in Arizona sun.
Can you make a pool deck less slippery?
Yes. We can add traction additives such as silica sand, nano-grit, or aluminum oxide to improve grip in wet areas.
Are coated floors slippery?
Surface texture depends on the system selected. Some finishes are smoother, while others have more texture for added grip.
Do you recommend traction additives for wet areas?
Yes. For pool decks, patios, and areas exposed to rain or sprinklers, we often recommend adding traction material to the final coat.
Are your floors slip-proof?
No floor can be guaranteed slip-proof. Traction additives can improve grip, but slip resistance also depends on water, dust, footwear, and how the floor is maintained.
Do you offer Good, Better, and Best options?
Yes. We offer tiered systems so customers can choose the right balance of price, finish, durability, moisture protection, and warranty.
How long are your warranties?
Warranty length depends on the selected system:
Good: 10 years
Better: 15 years
Best: 20 years
What does the warranty cover?
Our warranty covers workmanship-related issues such as flaking and peeling under normal use and proper maintenance.
Is pricing final before you inspect the floor?
No. Pricing is subject to onsite verification of concrete conditions before installation.
How do I clean my coated floor?
Use a soft mop, hose, or neutral-pH cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals unless approved for coated surfaces.
Can pet accidents or chemicals damage the floor?
Our systems are resistant to many common contaminants, but spills should still be cleaned promptly to help preserve the finish.
How long will my floor last?
That depends on the system chosen, how the area is used, UV exposure, and maintenance. With proper care, professionally installed systems can perform for many years.
